Our main cutting period is from late summer through to early spring, outside of the main bird nesting season. We always consider the condition of the hedge and check for nesting birds before carrying out any work.

The best approach depends on the type and condition of the hedge. Some species, such as beech, hornbeam and hawthorn, can tolerate heavier reductions and respond well with new growth.
Other hedges, particularly conifers such as Leylandii, may not regrow if they are cut back beyond the green growth.
